Welcome To Kingscliff

Hi, and welcome to my web site of my home town Kingscliff, NSW, Australia.

This site is mainly about the history of Kingscliff. I also have a personal account of someone who holidayed here as a child.

Now a bit about how my family came to live here.

My family first came here in 1954. A few years before I was born. At this stage there was only my three eldest siblings. In 1956 the youngest of my two brothers was born. I was told that at the time of his birth there was a flood and they had to get mum through the flood waters to the nearest hospital, which was about twenty miles away.

By the time I was born in 1957, we had moved to South Tweed Heads. Which is 10 kilometers north of Kingscliff. By the time I was 18 months old, we had moved again. This time to Terranora. At that time in my life I loved living there.

In 1966, we moved to Kingscliff. I can't remember the actual move but I can remember leaving our home behind. Looking out the back window of the car and dad driving us away to a new one.

Kingscliff. What a wonderful place for a child to grow up. Right on the beach. I remember every Sunday, some of us kids, by this time there were nine of us, would head of down to the beach and spend the morning there. We would come home for lunch and then head back again afterwards. Back then there was no talk of skin cancer. We would get burnt so badly that having a bath was agony. Our eldest sister loved to peel our skin of.

Mum and dad are still living in the same house. Thinking back, it's hard to imagine that there were eleven people under the roof when now there is only three. Mum, dad and one sister.

I still live in Kingscliff. Maybe one day I'll find a place that is as good as here. I'm aways thinking, if I had to move where would I go? I love being near the sea. So it would have to be near it. We have great weather. Gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. But what place doesn't.

I've finally left Kingscliff. After 40 years there I moved to the town where I was born, Murwillumbah, and I'm loving it.I moved here on the 11 March 2006. I love the feel of this town. One day I hope to create a site about Murwillumbah.
